These Pearls Please! mitts are inspired by the elegance of opera gloves and long pearl necklaces worn by the ladies of Downton Abbey.

They’re knitted in the round and while the back of the hand and thumb gusset feature columns of slip stitch rib dotted with pearl-like bobbles, the palm is worked in stocking stitch for contrast with a pointed rib on the inside of the wrist. A single line of slip stitch creates a vertical ‘line of thumb’ detail that continues up the centre of the gusset as it’s shaped.
