Pearly Cardigan
The Pearly cardigan is a top-down seamless saddle-shoulder cardigan with round neck, cropped fit, loose sleeves, and a lot of I-cord detailing.
This is an intermediate pattern.
Sizes:
This cardigan is designed to have approximately 10cm/4in of positive ease at the bust and 20cm/8in of positive ease at the upper arm. You may wish to choose a different size than recommended if you prefer a different amount of ease. If you pick a different size, be mindful that you may need to adjust the armhole depth.
The sizes are designed to fit 1 (2, 3, 4, 5) 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 = 71-76 (81-86, 91.5-96.5, 101.5-106.5, 111.5-117) 122-127, 132-137, 142-147, 152-158, 163-168cm /28-30 (32-34, 36-38, 40-42, 44-46) 48-50, 52-54, 56-58, 60-62, 64-66in and will appear throughout the pattern in this manner. If there’s only one number noted in the pattern it applies to all sizes. Right and left refer to the wearer’s right and left.

Gauge:
20 sts by 30 rows form a 10 by 10cm/ 4 by 4in square
Materials:
4 mm/US 6 needles (100cm/40in cable) or needles required to achieve gauge
3.5mm/US 4 needles or needles 2 sizes smaller than main needles for cuffs and button band
4.5mm/US 7 needles for optional corrugated ribbing
King Cole Forest Aran 20% Polyamide, 25% Viscose, 35% Wool, 20% Acrylic;100g = 300me fooled by the name, it’s definitely more of a DK-weight yarn) in two shades, or any DK-weight yarn that knits to the stated gauge. Sample used King Cole Forest Aran with MC Gisburn Forest #1919, CC Balvain Woods #1915.

Or any DK weight yarn you can get gauge with. Please be aware that forest aran is more of a true DK weight than an aran weight, which the name suggests.
5 20mm/.75in buttons
Darning needle, 4 stitch markers, one distinctive marker for BOR, stitch holders or scrap yarn, safety pins or bulb stitch markers to hold several sts.
Techniques required:
Long-tail cast-on, cable cast-on, backwards-loop cast-on, tubular bind-off, knitting stocking stitch flat and in the round, German short rows, increasing, decreasing, picking up stitches, I-cord bind-off, corrugated ribbing in 1x1 stranded colourwork.
4 stitch I-cord bind-off:
Cable CO 4 sts out of the first st on your needle or use the 4 sts already in place (this varies in different places in the pattern, you will be instructed what to do each time). K3, k2togtbl, slide the 4 sts from your right to your left needle; repeat from - until you have 4 sts remaining, then graft them to the CO edge or graft live sts together or place the last 4 sts on hold. It will be specified in the pattern at each I-cord what you should do with the remaining sts.
3 stitch buttonhole:
Place yarn in front, sl1, place yarn in back, (sl1, pass first slipped st over 2nd as if to bind off)x3, place st back onto LH needle, turn. Using attached working yarn, cable CO 4 sts, turn. Sl1, pass 4th CO st over as if to bind off, sl1 st back onto RH needle.
