The pebble collar pattern .PDF is 20% off through November 29th, 2024! No coupon code required; the discount is taken automatically at checkout.

This quick winter knit is a nice way to show off a fancy thick-and-thin handspun yarn, and it should work well with bulky commercial yarns, too! It functions as a light neckwarmer, but I think it really exists to be cute. It is pretty cute.

The .PDF includes instructions for both collars shown! (They’re essentially the same, but the lighter one has a few extra rows.)

The peachy sample is made from thick-and-thin handspun from Ashland Bay merino. The yarn is lighter overall.

The bright red/orange sample is heavier overall, and shows the slip stitch section exactly as written.

Please note: I chose a spinning batts fiber source completely at random to try to approximate the spinning wool I used for the brighter sample! I use my own, but don’t currently sell them.

Materials:

  • 80-90 yards bulky thick and thin yarn (shown in handspun at about 1yd/gm)
  • One 24“ circular needle or a pair of straight needles in US11-13/8.0-9.0mm, or size needed for gauge. Knitting is flat for this project.
  • Tapestry needle
  • 1.5” coconut or lightweight wood button

Gauge:
Gauge is 8 sts and 16 rows over 4”/10cm in k2 p2 rib, worked flat.

Measurements:
As shown, unfastened, this collar measures 19”/48cm long by 5.5”/14cm wide.

(Man, check out that gauge. This is one of the bulkiest/quickest knits I’ve ever published a pattern for.)
