Pecten Shawl
Pecten (the name for a genus of scallops) is a simple crescent shawl knit from the top down, beginning at the center. It is worked flat and is a wonderful first shawl project. The shawl consists of garter stitch and a scalloped edge, echoing the familiar shape of a scallop shell.
The scalloped edging is worked separately and then joined to the shawl using either a 3 needle bind off or Kitchener grafting. Great for stashbusting: the small size uses appropriately one single skein or partial skeins could be alternated. Instructions are given for customizing the shawl body and scalloped edge. The Pecten Shawl could also be worked in other yarn weights with the appropriate needle size to create your desired drape; this would affect gauge and therefore also the finished size.
