Famed pediatrician Dr. William Sears says the most important way to protect children outdoors is by wearing a hat. But, many children won’t wear one. The secret is to start kids in hats as early as possible, and keep it up as they grow.
- Gently shades tender heads, necks, and shoulders from the sun
- Heart-shaped button “kiss” on the forehead to hold brim out of baby’s face
- Unbuttoned brim gently shades baby’s eyes for naps in the car seat or stroller
- Large brim offers a bit of modesty for breastfeeding moms, and wearing the hat during breastfeeding encourages baby to wear hats during play
- Fun way to play “peek-a-boo” with baby
- Hand washable for easy care
- Infant and toddler sizes– 1-2 years of wear from each size
- Tucks easily in diaper bag or purse so you can carry it with you

Sizing: When complete, your hat will measure 16” at the hat band for the infant size and 19” at the hat band for the toddler size.

This pattern is rated intermediate for knitting in the round and crochet bind off techniques.
