Fair Isle Wrist warmers

An achievable Fair Isle colourwork knitting project that comprises of stripes of small (’peerie’) patterns. A great project for using up leftover wool with suggestions for using up even the smallest amount. Only two colours are used in each row with the unused yarn being carried across the back of the work.

The end result is a pair of practical, double-thickness mittens with a thumb hole for ease of movement in a colourful Fair Isle pattern. A full chart for the Fair Isle section is included in the pattern.

MATERIALS
4-ply yarn in the following quantities: 25g of a main colour, 25g of a neutral colour plus smaller amounts of three or more additional colours (10g - 25g)
1 pair of 3mm (UK no 11) and 1 pair of 3.25mm (UK no 10) knitting needles
A tapestry needle
A crochet hook

TENSION
30 sts and 42 rows over 10cm square using 3.25mm knitting needles and stocking stitch

TECHNIQUES
Stretchy rib cast on (photo-illustrated technique), Fair Isle colourwork, stocking stitch, knit and purl stitches, casting on and casting off, decreasing and double crochet
