Fresh snow is blanketed across the ground, thick and untouched, sparkling like iridescent glitter. The air is cold enough to keep it powdery. The skis easily glide through it as if they are floating on air. Breath creates clouds that mingle and dissipate in the sunlight. Pine tree branches weighed down with snow make little hideaways at the trunks, circle forts in the conifers. Chickadees flit from branch to branch as the skis track through the pristine forest, discovering new sanctuaries of the woodland.
