I think what I enjoy the most in the world is designing sweaters,
I have tons of patterns! But I also love the slipped stitch
technique (I know, this book is proof of my passion for this
technique).
The Peixe Sweater occurred to me while I was knitting a swatch
for some leg warmers. The pattern reminded me of fish scales.
Despite living in Galicia, the only fish I see are at the
fishmonger’s, but Galician fishmongers are at another level.
This is why I decided to call this sweater Peixe, which means
‘fish’ in Galician. Also, it can be made with or without sleeves,
since some people prefer sleeveless garments.
NOTIONS:
You must know how to knit, purl, cast-on, the slip stitch
technique, knit through the back loop and yarn over.
GAUGE:
20 stitches per 26 rows for a 10x10 cm swatch with 4-mm
needles or whichever are needed.
MATERIALS:
For the version with sleeves and contrast colour yoke:
4 skeins of main colour and 2 skeins of contrast colour, in
Malabrigo Ríos. The sample has been knit with Yerba as the
main colour and Aguas as the contrast colour.
For the sleeveless version (short sleeves) with main colour yoke:
4 skeins of main colour and 1 skein of contrast colour, in
Malabrigo Ríos. The sample has been knit with Glazed Carrot
as the main colour and English Rose as the contrast colour.
4 or 4.5-mm circular needles, depending on your gauge, and
an 80-cm cable, or whichever is most comfortable for you.
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS:
Once blocked the sweater measures 120 cm around and 65 cm
high.
