Both pelican and baby are knitted in the round on 3.5mm (US #4) needles in worsted yarn. The pattern has a step by step description round by round. To knit both it takes less than 70 meters of white and 30 meter of yellow. Of corse any color or type of yarn can be used to make fun pelican friends out of scrap yarn as well. Eyes are made with French knots in black yarn. Any type of yarn can be used as long as needle size are adjusted a couple of sizes down to ensure filling isn’t showing. Changing the gauge with different weight of yarn and needle is also a way to play around with sizes of the pelican. I prefer wool yarn and polyester filling for easy care and so the pelican as a toy keeps it’s shape and can easily be washed when needed.
