Penguin Baubles
This pattern is for both a penguin in a Santa hat bauble & a penguin in a Christmas tree hat bauble. They are both made in one piece so the only sewing involved is to close the hole at the end!
The pattern is written in American crochet terms and contain lots of photos to help you every step of the way. All of my patterns have been independently tested prior to publication.
You will need:
Yarn of your choice. I used King Cole Cherished dk weight yarn (equivalent to light worsted, weight 3) with a 4mm hook. My finished penguin in a Santa hat measures approximately 8.5cm tall, and the penguin in a Christmas Tree hat measures 11cm tall.
For the Penguin in a Santa hat (pages 4 - 7), you will need the following colours:
- Main hat colour - I used red (approx. 7m).
- Hat trim & tummy colour - I used white (approx. 7m).
- Body colour - I used black (approx. 16m).
- Beak & Feet colour - I used mustard (approx. 1.5m).
For the Penguin in a Christmas Tree hat (pages 4, 8 - 12), you will need the following colours:
- Tree colour - I used green (approx. 9m).
- Hat trim colour (adding this is optional) - I used brown (approx. 0.5m).
- Tummy colour - I used white (approx. 3m).
- Body colour - I used black (approx. 16m).
- Beak & Feet colour - I used mustard (approx. 1.5m).
Please Note The amount of yarn used will vary according to yarn weight, hook size and stitch tension so these measurements are only a rough guide. The pattern refers to the colours that I used, however these can be substituted for colours of your choice.
You will also need:
- A suitable size hook for the yarn you have chosen - I used a 4mm hook.
- 6mm black safety eyes.
- A small amount of toy stuffing.
- A small length of fine string / twine / yarn to use as a hanging loop.
- 25 small beads to decorate your tree - these are threaded onto your yarn before you start making the tree so the centre hole needs to be big enough to do so. I used 5mm beads in 2 colours. It’s possible to use small craft bells (I used 7mm ones) but these are more difficult as they don’t slide along the yarn so well as you work. It’s also difficult to plan which colour bead /bell will go on each branch on the tree and you may end up with colours grouping together. I recommend using 2 colours and simply alternating them for this reason.
- A small star-shaped button for adding to the top of your tree (this is optional).
- Other tools you will need are a needle, some scissors and some stitch markers.
You are welcome to sell the items that you make using this pattern, but please do not sell / share the pattern itself. If you have any questions then please feel free to contact me. Thank you.
