Penny Candy Socks
Matching accessory to Penny Candy Tee. and a great way to use up left-over sock yarn from your Tee!
A charming sock duo of stripes & lace ! Knit top-down & on two circular needles, using centered-at-heel end-of-round. This technique allows stripes to follow every turn, through the heel & heel turn and continue through the gussets all the way to the toe, creating uniform & unending array of stripes & you need not once cut a strand of yarn from beginning to the very end! Ribbed cuff option included & four sizes to fit x-small thru x-large. These eye-candy socks will very likely have you knitting a pair for everyone in your family this spring & summer !
Most recent update: April 14, 2015 If you are working from a pdf which is dated earlier, you have an out-dated pattern.
Gauge: 8 stitches and 11 rounds = 1 inch
Please see my tutorial on 3-in-1 swatching to get a thorough & more exact stitch-gauge swatch.
Yarn: Malabrigo Sock, Knit Picks Stroll, or similar fingering sock yarn.
Madelinetosh Tosh Sock and similar regular fingering weight are lovely sock yarns but are a little bit thicker, therefore fabric may be stiffer if gauge is met with smaller needles. Perhaps knit with same needles but make allowance for finished size to be a little bit larger. I say go for it!
Yardage: You’ll use approximately 40 (50, 60, 70) g of yarn for a pair of lace cuffed Penny Candy Socks (shown on cover). You’ll need one ball/skein each of two colors; a Main Color (MC) and a Contrasting Color (CC) will give far more than you’ll use, depending upon the size you knit, & you might have enough for two pairs! Great for left-over half balls of sock yarn you already have in your yarn stash.
Needles: Two US 2 - 2.75mm in 16” length, or size to obtain gauge. Optional: a pair of circular needles two sizes smaller than size to obtain gauge.
I’ve written this pattern for two-circular-needles method, because this is how I knit all things in-the-round. I’ve designated “Needle One” for the instep stitches, and “Needle Two” for all the rest. If you wish to knit with double-pointed needles, or dpns, I suggest using one needle for the instep, and the other two for the heel & gusset, or use two dpns for each circular needle, using four in a set if your set has five.
Just follow your dpns sock-knitting instincts !
Sizes: The following measurements of sock, after washing & drying flat.
Corresponding finished sock circumference: 5.5 (6.5, 7.5, 8.5/9) inches 14 (16.5, 19, 21.5/23)cm
Corresponding finished sock length (approximate): 7 (8, 9, 10) inches 18 (20, 23, 25)cm
