Hydrangeas are one of my favourite summer flowers. My Granny had a huge hydrangea in her garden. It bloomed great big blousy blue mops of flowers every summer. I always knew it was a plant I wanted in my garden too. This variety of hydrangea is known as the “Penny Mac” Hydrangea.
Last summer (2021) was one of our hottest summers in many years. As I sat knitting these socks in the garden under a pure blue sky and beside the gorgeous blue hydrangeas, I knew I had to call this design “Penny Mac Socks.”
The pattern is perfect for summer. It has a simple stitch pattern that is easy to remember, creating a light and lacy fabric. The socks have instructions for both toe up and cuff down knitting. The pattern has a wedge toe and a Wrap and Turn short row heel, however the heel and toe could easily be changed to your own choice. They are knit using the magic loop method but can be adapted to suit dpns. There are full written instruction and a chart for the stitch pattern.
