Penny's Ode to Ireland Cables
Penny’s Ode to Ireland is a Tunisian crochet cabled blanket, constructed with 5 panels of 6 continuous blocks, separated by 4 vertical strips and a narrow crochet border. There are 30 different blocks with a wide variety of cable patterns. The texture provided by the cables and stitches have great visual impact.
The pattern was a successful CAL in my FB group, Walker Hollow Designs in 2017 and accomplished beginners were able to complete this “I can’t believe it’s not knitted project”. This blanket was inspired by a trip to Ireland and visit to the Blarney Woolen Mills. The Tunisian crochet cables were adapted from knitting patterns, awkward at first, but the learning time is short.
I’ve been exploring Tunisian crochet for decades, created the method for charting designs, for regular and TITR (Tunisian in the Round) crochet. I’ve taught hundreds of ultimately successful students, some beginners to Tunisian crochet, and received rave reviews for well written patterns. This pattern is 61 pages of detailed information. I recently adapted some of these cable designs for a Simple Crochet supplement and a Crochet World pattern.
Materials: 6.0 mm Tunisian crochet hook, cable stitch holder or short double ended knitting needle
I used Caron One Pound yarn in 5 colours for the multicolour blanket, and Bernat Super Value for the solid version.
