Oh Summer. So beautiful, so short. Peonies are not the first flowers of summer but they feel like the true representatives of the utter luxury and abandon of the season – over-sized and flip-flopping all over your yard.….

This unisex pattern was designed to celebrate the overlapping petals and organic curves of these lovely flowers. It creates a modified crescent shawl. An easy knit that looks complex – it requires a bit of attention to keeping your place but is very intuitive once you get going. It is knit top-down, flat, with increases at each side, and with short-row shaping to make the curved shapes. Don’t worry if your stitch counts get a little bit off, as long as it’s reasonably symmetrical - no one will notice! No agonizing over small mistakes allowed….

Materials:
• 1 skein (100g, 400 yards) fingering weight yarn (main color)
• 1 mini-skein (30g, 120 yards) fingering weight yarn (contrast color, if desired). See schematic for suggestions on where to use contrast color.
• OR You will need approximately 125g fingering weight yarn if knit in one color. Sample knits used an average of 87g main color and 24g contrast color.
• US 3 (3.25mm) 32” circular needles (or desired length – added length is helpful if you want to stretch the knitting out to see it shaping up)
