Pepo Pie
Pattern was revamped and therefore newly tech edited in September 2014. It was edited to make instructions clearer and tweak the sizing.
This dapper little waistcoat is designed for those cool autumn days where you need an extra layer but not a full sweater. Also perfect for the kid who wants to look sharp come back-to-school time. Need a quick addition to an outfit for a special event? Pepo Pie has got your back. Features neat pockets for storing all kinds of goodies.
With the knitter in mind, it is designed to be nearly seamless--knit in one piece to the armholes, then split, and the shoulders are later joined with a three needle bind off. The button bands and hems are worked at the same time as the vest so there is no picking up stitches at the end. The only bits left to seam are the pockets, though this could be avoided if you did afterthought pockets or left the pockets out all together.
Note about sizing: The first two photos show the same child wearing the exact same vest. In the first photo, Leo is just turned 1, but was wearing 18-24 month size in tops (chubby baby!) and modelling the 2 year size vest. In the second photo, Leo is nearly 3, wearing 2-3 year size in tops, and again modelling the very same 2 year size vest. The younger crowd may need a size larger than expected depending on their build, so do please measure if you can! If you can’t measure, pick the size based on the size of clothing the child wears, not his/her age.
Yardage requirements: 150 (175, 200, 250, 275, 325, 375, 425) yards worsted weight wool
Chest sizes to fit: 17 (19, 20, 21, 22, 23.5, 25, 27)“
