I originally wanted to do everything in multiples of six, but I had to put an occasional seventh row in to make it work. So the beat’s a bit off kilter, kind of like dropping a drum kit down the stairs.

Size One size fits most. Head circumferences 21-23 inches (53-58.5 cm)

Yarn Fingering weight yarn with good stitch definition so that you can see the textured stripe patterns. You will need one 50g ball each of two contrasting colours. For best results, choose a solid coloured yarn or one with a very gradual colour change.

Yarns used in sample include King Cole Merino Blend 4 ply (dark red) and ONline Linie 2 Supersocke Silk (brown). Pattern testers also used Knit Picks Stroll, Heritage Solids & Quatro Colors by Cascade Yarns, Ella Rae Lace Merino and Viking of Norway Nordlys.

Materials needed: 6 stitch markers, 1 preferably in a different colour to mark the beginning of the round.

Difficulty: Advanced beginner. Knitting in the round with simple colour changes and simple knit/purl textured stitches. Techniques include pinhole cast on, travelling jogless stripes, and Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind-off.
