Perfect Chevron Afghans Crochet Pattern

Everyone loves the look of a chevron afghan. The bold striped pattern or the simplistic one-color texture is appealing to all different types of people. However- I always had a few hang-ups with chevrons, so I fixed them:

1) The pointy edges. Who wants to curl up with pointy things sticking them in the face? Not me. After much trial and error, I have designed the perfect chevron afghans with straight edges.

2) All that joining and weaving in of ends. My blankets are worked from the bottom to the top and there is no superfluous joining, turning, or rotating of your blanket, no matter how many colors you use in them. This includes the rows to make the edges straight!

3) The unknown. Even if I chain 120 at the beginning, after it gets going will it be shorter? I want even colored stripes, but what if it isn’t long enough at the end? What if I need my blanket to measure a certain size? This pattern works backwards- you start with the measurements you want for your finished blanket, then choose your yarn and hook, work a sample swatch, plug your measurements into my simple formulas, and voila! You will have your starting chain and exactly how many rows you will need to work in order to end up with your perfect chevron blanket.

There are two types to choose from- your basic, regular chevron and what I call the “deep chevron“- which basically means the height of each point is taller than normal, and the “v” of each chevron is lower, or deeper, than normal (see photo 3 above).

With my simple formulas, you can calculate the pattern to fit ANY type or weight of yarn and any hook size, as well as any size afghan!

Also included are many how-to photos, tips and tricks for changing and carrying colors, how to work so you will only have ONE end to weave in, and a simple edging to make your finished chevron afghan look polished and even MORE perfect.
