I’ve always been enamored with my birthstone. Recently, I decided to learn more about the gemstone and was happily surprised to find an explanation for why I feel better when wearing it: peridot embodies so many of the best parts of life that I’m always working towards achieving.

The Peridot Cowl was named for the unique shade of yarn used to create this cozy knit. At first glance, I was instantly reminded of my cherished birthstone. This cowl just feels good to wear … it combines the style and shaping of a shawl without all the fuss. It’s my favorite type of accessory to wear: just grab and go!

After beginning with a garter tab cast-on, you’ll knit a simple textured stitch with ridges to keep you on track with interludes of soothing stockinette so it works up quickly. Then, you’ll join to work in the round as you build upon the texture to add interest to any outfit. The shaping of this design allows the cowl to rest gently on your shoulders. Pick a light and bright shade for a pop of color, or a neutral that coordinates with any ensemble.

YARN
Aran or Heavy Worsted Weight yarn; approx. 220 yards/200 m, weighing 100 g.

Sample uses Juniper Moon Farm Stratus (60% Merino Wool, 20% Nylon (polyamide), 10% Yak, 10% Baby Alpaca, 142 yards/130 m per 50 g); 2 balls used in color 106 Vine Valley.

NEEDLES & NOTIONS
• US 10.5/6.5 mm knitting needles (or size needed to obtain gauge)
• 4 stitch markers, one unique for BOR
• Tapestry needle
• Row counter

GAUGE
16 sts and 24 rows = 4”/10 cm after blocking, using US 10.5/6.5 mm needles, worked flat in Ridge Stitch pattern.

APPROXIMATE SIZE
One size, to fit the average adult:
• Neck Opening Circumference: 22”/56 cm
• Front Length: 16”/40.5 cm
• Back Length: 5”/12.5 cm
