Scarf, hat/beret and handwarmers or finger gloves Permafrost

The inspiration for this set is my background as a physical geographer. Permafrost, the phenomenon has always intrigued me. A world dominated by snow and ice, but also where plants and animals find their place. The natural colours of the Lopi wool used, reminds me of the colours of heather, mosses and blueberries that grow here in combination with the white and ice blue for the snow and the ice. In winter the plants live on under the snow and you see the colours on the places where these are exposed by animals. In summer, the colours show themselves in full glory but always there is the ice, deeper in the ground, always present. This difference in summer and winter is particularly reflected in the scarf which consists of two parts.

The set consist of a scarf which is knitted like a legwarmer or sock with cuffs on both ends. The length can be adjusted to your size and it can also be worn like a cowl by tucking in the cuffs. Because the backside of the knitwork stays hidden this is an ideal project for the first-time Fair Isle or Islandic style knitter. The set is completed with a hat or beret and handwarmers or finger gloves, as you wish, both descriptions are in the pattern.

I used Istex Lett Lopi wool for this because it’s warm and comfy but also affordable. You can knit it either in 2 colours and need about 800 grams of wool or in 6 colours and need about 1100 grams of wool.

Sjaal, muts / baret en handwarmers of vingerhandschoenen Permafrost

De inspiratie voor deze set is mijn achtergrond als fysisch geograaf. Permafrost, het fenomeen heeft me altijd geïntrigeerd. Een wereld die gedomineerd wordt door sneeuw en ijs, maar ook een plaats waar planten en dieren hun plek te vinden. De natuurlijke kleuren van de Lopi wol die ik gebruik, doen me denken aan de kleuren van heide, mossen en bosbessen die hier groeien in combinatie met het wit en ijsblauw voor de sneeuw en het ijs. In de winter leven de planten onder de sneeuw verder en zie je de kleuren op de plaatsen waar deze worden blootgelegd door dieren. In de zomer, tonen de kleuren zich in volle glorie, maar altijd is er het ijs, dieper in de grond. Dit verschil in de zomer en winter komt vooral tot uiting in de sjaal die bestaat uit twee delen.

De set bestaat uit een sjaal die wordt gebreid als een beenwarmer of sok met boordjes aan beide uiteinden. De lengte kan worden aangepast aan uw maat en het kan ook worden gedragen als een col door de boordjes in te stoppen. Omdat de achterzijde van de breiwerk verborgen blijft is dit een ideaal project voor de eerste keer Fair Isle of IJslandse stijl breister. De set wordt compleet gemaakt met een muts of baret en handwarmers of vinger handschoenen, zoals jij wil, beide beschrijvingen zijn aanwezig in het patroon.

Ik gebruik Istex Lett Lopi wol voor dit patroon want het is warm en comfortabel, maar ook betaalbaar. U kunt het breien in 2 kleuren en heeft dan ongeveer 800 gram wol nodig of in 6 kleuren en heeft dan ongeveer 1100 gram wol nodig.
