Here is a simple heirloom-style afghan square that makes a wonderful baby blanket.

When stitched with worsted weight yarn and a 6mm hook, it makes about a 7.5-inch square.

The pattern includes both written and charted instructions, as well as directions to join the squares without detracting from the scalloped shape of each square.
