Amidst all the anxiety and fear that is permeating the world at the moment, I felt drawn to share something - not only as a reminder of the beauty and joy that is present in our lives, but also of the transformative power of change, a reminder that those who challenge us can make us strong, encourage us to be resolute and determined, and can serve as a reminder of the importance of freedom both within ourselves and in the world.

“And once the storm is over, you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about.”
― Haruki Murakami, Kafka on the Shore

I love bright colours as they bring me joy, so I decided on a multi-coloured striped option with zig zag eyelets to serve as a reminder to seek for the light amidst the darkness.

My wish is for these socks to bring joy to those who knit them and to those who may receive them. Thank you all for being a part of this collective journey and for the joy and light you have brought to me.

I knitted these socks entirely from leftovers, using approx. 3-5g of each colour for a size 2, the pattern also includes an option for solid socks with mirrored diagonal lace stripes.

Materials:
• One 2.25mm / US size 1 circular needle 100cm / 40” in length for magic loop or set of DPNs, or size needed to meet the required gauge.
• Stitch markers (2), one of which is used to mark the beginning of round.
• Tapestry needle for sewing in threads.
• Blocking materials.
• For striped socks approximately 90m (100m,125m, 150m) / 98yds (109yds,137yds, 164yds) of fingering weight yarn (sock yarn) is required to knit the heels, toes, and cuffs. Approximately 15 – 20m / 16 – 22yds of sock yarn for each stripe should be suitable for most adult sizes. For a solid sock with contrasting heels and toes, a 100g skein of sock yarn of the main colour along with one 20g mini skein of sock yarn in the contrast colour for the heels and toes should be suitable for most adult sizes. Note that yardage will vary dependent on size, yarn choice and on the placement of stripes in the sock. The gusset rounds will use more yardage than leg rounds for example. The yardage requirements are therefore just an estimation. The sample is worked using chart A and various leftover yarns.

Gauge:
34 stitches and 48 rounds = 10cm / 4” in lace pattern, worked in the round and blocked.

Size:
