“This textured shawl collared cardigan worked in Shelter is a warm and cozy Sunday morning kind of sweater. It’s worked from the bottom up with an uneven hem and 3/4 set in sleeves, and the fronts and back are started separately but joined and worked in one piece to the underarms. The hems and sleeve cuffs are worked in 1×1 rib; the hem edges and front bands are worked in narrow garter stitch. The textured stitch patterns were chosen for their reversibility, and the collar can be worn up or folded.” – Amy Christoffers
CONSTRUCTION
The hems for the Fronts and Back are begun separately, then joined into one piece and worked to the underarm. The Fronts and Back are then worked separately to the shoulders. The Collar pieces are worked as extensions of the Fronts, and are joined later using Kitchener Stitch, then sewn to the Back neck. The Sleeves are worked in the round to the underarm, stitches are bound off for the underarm, and the cap is worked flat.
