PERU FAIRISLE HEADBAND
Based on the detailed patterns of traditional Peruvian hats

Note: Includes instructions for extending the length of the headband with a button band if you have used finer wool and/or smaller needles.

MATERIALS
1 50g ball of a 4-p;y wool in a darker background colour and 1 50g ball of a lighter colour for the pattern (two colours)
OR
1 50g ball of a 4-ply wool in a darker background colour and small amounts of three complimentary colours
A pair of 3.25mm knitting needles
A Tapestry needle
(For variation) three buttons

TECHNIQUES
Casting on and off, Fairisle - following a colourwork chart, K2 P2 Rib, Stocking Stitch (Knit row 1, Purl row 2).
(For variation) button holes, garter stitch (knit every row)

MEASUREMENTS
If using West Yorkshire Spinners Signature 4-ply wool, the headband will measure 10 inches wide when laid flat: 20 inches in total (51cm) and 4 inches tall (10cm). There is some stretch.

VARIATION
Instructions are given detailing how to extend the length of the headband with a garter stitch button band.
