Peruvian Poncho
This poncho was inspired by one that my husband bought me as a gift 35 years ago. It has finally worn totally out. I can actually taste the fibers when I handle it so it seems a touch unhealthy to keep trying to wear it. I have repaired it well enough to have its photo taken page 13 and use it as the design basis for a new one. The new one is not a direct copy but does have a very similar flavor. 3 gauges and sizes. Adult size may be made only on the bulky in #5 yarn. Big girls and little girls sizes may be made on bulky or mid-gauge by changing the yarn. The pattern stays the same for all!
This pattern is part of the book Ponchos With Panache about making all kinds of ponchos on all kinds of machines. Table of Contents for the whole book is below.

GAUGES: Where 2 are given, one is intended for standard & Passap machines using #1 yarn. The other is for mid-gauge & bulky machines and utilizes #4 yarn. Where possible, many gauges have been given rather than just 2.
The fairisle design was inspired by the original poncho. You
may substitute fairisle designs if they are the same length.
Remember that large floats will make the fairisle more
likely to catch on jewelry and purses so try to use designs
with short floats. Plain stripes are also an option.
