In the process of trying to figure out a way to crochet a hand shape, I accidentally made a paw. I thought it was cute and wanted to share. It could be accented with toe pads for more definition or sewn onto afghan blocks or pet beds. The paw is a rounded shape, so several of them together would also make cute coasters. I think you could use super bulky yarn or strips of old t-shirts to make a nice sized pet mat too.
