When I got married, my stepmother wanted to knit me something to wear in the wedding--she suggested a shawl, but I already had one underway. I wanted a flower to wear on my veil, so I wrote up this pattern for a delicate white silk-and-mohair flower trimmed with silver beads and sent it to her. She sent the flower back, I sewed it to my veil, and walked down the aisle with this wonderful little symbol of my family’s love pinned into my hair. When writing up the pattern to share, I created a second variation, with white petals edged in cherry blossom pink, and fluffy yarn stamens adorning the center of the bloom instead of beads.

The five petals are worked separately in the round and sewn together. Version B utilizes some of the extra yarn tails as stamens rather than having them all woven in. I prefer the look of the flower with the purl side facing out, but you can reverse the petals so the knit side faces out instead if you like.

Needles: 1 set of 4 DPNs, US size 1.5 (2.5 mm)

Gauge: 32 sts/36 rows = 4” in stockinette stitch

Size: approximately 2.5 inches/6.5 cm across

Suggested yarns: Rowan Kidsilk Haze or a similar laceweight brushed mohair-silk laceweight yarn. The flower will use far less than 1 skein, so it’s perfect for using up scraps.
Version A also uses 15 silver foil-lined size 10 seed beads.
