This pattern is a comprehensive photo tutorial, 12 pages, 83 photos, 8MB. There is not a text-only version of this pattern. You will need a PDF reader such as Adobe Reader to view or print the file. English language and US crochet terms only.

Materials:
DMC Cebelia crochet thread (or other tightly wound thread) sizes 20 and 30.

1.50mm hook & 1.25mm hook.

1/2” OD cabone ring. I use the Boye MPN: 7536030M UPC: 070659777981 which has 30pcs of 1/2” and 15pcs of 3/4”. You can use any ring that has a 0.5” outer diameter and a 0.3” inner diameter.

A smaller hook, I use 0.60mm, or a small tapestry needle (rounded end). This is just to loosen very tight stitches so exact size isn’t critical.

Lightweight Clasp

Fabric Glue

Optional:
Needle nose tweezers may be very helpful to define the shape of the little clusters.

Substitutions
You can substitute size 10 thread for the size 20 thread. You can substitute size 20 thread for the size 30 thread. You can NOT substitute size 10 thread for the size 30 without using a different size cabone ring.

A formula for calculating the right number of stitches and their spacing is included for those wishing to use a different size cabone ring.

Info for substituting glass beads for the clusters is also included.

Details for all substitutions are on the second page.

Gauge:
Not essential.

You need the following skills:

  • chain
  • slip stitch
  • single crochet
  • double crochet
  • triple crochet
  • working front loop only
  • working back loop only
  • controlling tension
  • able to work with thread
  • patience, accuracy & attention to detail

This pattern is appropriate for an intermediate to advanced crocheter. More important than a specific experience level is patience and the ability to follow instructions.

I make these necklaces in a single color, usually white, and dye them. Step-by-step instructions for dyeing are NOT included in the patterns. A resource where you can purchase supplies and get information on the process is included. Or you can get a similar effect simply by changing colors, when to make that change is mentioned on the second page of the pattern.

If you would like to use darker rich jewel tones, you may want to consider my Gothic Windows necklace:
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/gothic-windows-necklace which is slightly easier/quicker and does not require a cabone ring.

Instructions for a 2 thread cord is included. It’s more polished than a regular crochet chain but much easier than i-cord. There is also instructions for attaching a toggle clasp.
