Petite Parallel Ridges
This simple little knit square is full of options! It’s a variation of “Parallel Ridges” in ca. 1893 Weldon’s Practical Needlework, vol. 6, p.6. The original pattern has 121 rows, which made me tired just lookin’ at it! I developed a smaller version with a few changes. This square can be any size: use any yarn and needles, slowly increase 3-row ridges until you’re ready for the center eyelet row (or omit eyelet row), then slowly decrease the ridges until you’re out of stitches! You can also decide which side is the right side and decide how to set (arrange) the squares.
The white sample is 3.5 inches wide when blocked. It takes about an hour to knit a square.
Skills needed: cast on, slip, knit, purl, yarn over, k2tog and k3tog.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
