Peyto Lake is a glacier-fed lake in Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada. In the summertime, the lake is fed by Peyto Creek, which drains water from Peyto Glacier. The glacial water contains “rock flour” – fine-grained, silt-sized pieces of bedrock scoured off the mountain by glacial erosion – which is suspended in the water and gives the lake a bright, robin’s egg blue or turquoise colour. The beautiful colour of Peyto Lake and the outline of the surrounding mountain peaks are the inspiration for this cowl.
