Take Two, Collection One - Crochet is almost available! The premise of Take Two is that two designers (Fay Dashper-Hughes and Lynne Rowe) each designed four patterns. We then swapped patterns over and recreated them using different yarns, or hook sizes or changing small elements of the original pattern. Within the Take Two you get the original eight patterns and the details of the ‘take two’ designs, sixteen designs in total.
This blanket design shows that sock yarn isn’t just for socks and can also be used to create interesting patterns and texture with crochet. You could use your left over sock yarn to create a stash blanket as a reminder of all those lovely socks you’ve made.
Construction:
The squares are made individually, then crocheted together using double crochet. A border is then added with the remaining yarn.
About the yarn:
West Yorkshire Spinners Ltd are based in West Yorkshire, UK which is the birthplace of the British Worsted Spinning Industry. Their ‘Signature 4ply’ sock range is 75% wool, 25% nylon, and 35% of the wool content is Bluefaced Leicester which makes it soft and sumptuous. It is machine washable, so it’s perfect for a blanket. For more information, see www.wyspinners.com.
Size:
Full Blanket including Border is 86x86cm
You can make your blanket larger by adding more squares. This will affect the amount of yarn needed.
Hooks:
3.5mm (US E/4)
Time to make:
Each square took me about 1.5 hours to crochet and the whole blanket, including making up and adding the border, took around 50 hours
Gauge:
Each square measures approximately 15x15cm (6x6in) using a 3.5mm hook.
If you use a heavier weight yarn and a larger hook, your square will be larger.
Special techniques:
Crocheting in the round
Making a 5-ch picot
This pattern is currently only available as part of Take Two (Collection One - Crochet)
