You are making two rectangles, each one 2 squares by 4 squares. One rectangle will be the left side and the other one the right side. The rectangles are joined together with short row sections.

One mitered square with 53 sts comes out 3.75 inches X 3.75 inches

This overall should fit 3 months old babys. It depends on the size of the baby and on the sort of diapers the parents use..
