Pheasant Tea Cosy
After the success of my Rooster Tea Cosy, my friend has now asked me to make him a Pheasant Tea Cosy. Never one to resist a challenge, I had a go making a rugby ball shaped bird into a teapot shaped cosy. This is the result!
It fits a standard tea pot with a circumference of about 22”, but the vertical ridged stitch has a bit of give, and could therefore fit a bigger pot. This one is made using chunky weight yarn and a 5.5mm hook, but going down to aran weight with a 4mm hook would make it a bit smaller.
The pattern is pretty simple, using basic stitches. Although there are a few parts, they’re straightforward, so if you’re comfortable with basic stitches and constructions, this pattern shouldn’t present any technical difficulties.
The main body, wings, tail, base of neck and collar took about 150 meters of yarn, with oddments of blue/green, red, cream, and pale yellow used for the head, ears, neck band, eyes, and beak.
There’s no particular gauge, but aim to have the body piece, from bottom edge to top edge, measuring about 8” before gathering the top.
In addition, you’ll need a couple of safety eyes (or black yarn if you’d prefer to embroider the eyes), and a small amount of stuffing.
I’ve tested this pattern, and hope it all works properly, but if you see any bloopers please PM me.
