Phoebe's Muffatees
by Camy Tang
These are the lace arm-warmers/gauntlets (called muffatees in the Regency time period) worn by the character in my novel, Lady Wynwood’s Spies, volume 4: Betrayer. The lace pattern and even the structure of the muffatees are based off of antique patterns published a few years after the Regency, but were likely in use at the time of Jane Austen, just passed around by word of mouth rather than published in a book or journal.
The muffatees are completely customizable—just repeat the lace pattern until it’s the length you want. You can also add or remove lace repeats to make it a smaller or larger circumference.
