Phoenix Blanket
Super easy, quick to knit and easily customized, this throw was designed to highlight and tame the long color repeats in yarns like Noro. Inspired by the Noro Striped Scarf, the blanket is knit flat using mostly knit stitch (1 row purl, 5 rows knit). Gauge is not important in this project, as long as you are happy with the size of the blanket and feel of the fabric.
Sizes:
Baby Blanket - about 25X30 inches (63X76 cm)
Lap Blanket - about 35X40 inches (89X102 cm)
Throw - about 50X60 inches (127X152 cm)
The sample was made in the lap robe size, 400 grams of Knit Picks Chroma Twist Bulky in color Groovy (Color A) and 200 grams Knit Picks Chroma Twist Bulky in color Pegasus (Color B).
The results are most dramatic when the colorways are quite different from each other. You can also use solids, variegates or any combination you like.
Design requires about twice as much color A as color B.
Baby Blanket - 288 yards (263m) color A, 144 yards (132m) color B
Lap Blanket - 500 yards (457m) color A, 250 yards (229m) color B
Throw - 1200 yards (1097m) color A, 600 yards (549m) color B
To subsitute yarns, just cast on enough stitches to get the width you desire, pattern works for any stitch count, for any guage.
