Phryno Fred, the Texas Horned Lizard
This pattern is
available from knitpicks.com
for $3.99.
The Texas horned lizard (aka horned toad) has a rounded body, an angular head and a thick, spiny skin which allows him to sit on a bed of red ants and wait for his next meal to crawl into reach.
Fred’s body and markings are crocheted both flat and in the round, then sewn and slipstitched together. The rows of “spikes” are picots stitched onto the finished body. You will need four colors of yarn (dark gray, brown, tan and cream) in the weight of your choice, two black buttons, a yarn needle and a hook which will give a nice tight stitch. Gauge is important only so far as it is consistent throughout the piece.
