Picante Shawlette
Spice up your knitting and use up some scrap sock yarn at the same time with Picante! Picante is a simple shawlette or scarf knit on the bias sideways, which shows off a self-striping variegated yarn to its best advantage. Picante is also asymmetrical. Two of the side borders are knit simultaneously with the body of the shawlette, and the third ripple border is knit at the end on the third side before casting off. The shawlette you see pictured was knit in Patons Kroy Socks washable wool yarn in the Ragg Shades #55048, but you can use whatever sock yarn (or other weight yarn) you have on hand, (gauge is therefore not vital). Start knitting at the side and you decide how long you want to make it before adding the ripple border. I used about 340 yards on the body and about 100 on the border, and my finished shawlette is about six feet and a foot in width at its widest point. No counting except on the final border, so this is a great project to simply enjoy making.
