The scarf is knit in two pieces then joined in the center using a kitchener stitch. It starts with a picot cast on, then moves right into the body of the scarf. A garter stitch border on both sides gives it stability so the sides don’t roll. Once the lace/cable pattern is completed the rest of the scarf half is all knit. A perfect medium for displaying that special yarn, color, or hand-dye.

A little bit about the yarn. While a hand-spun yarn was used, a commercial yarn will work just fine. I chose a Shetland/Alpaca blend because I like the halo and softness that the alpaca gives the yarn while the Shetland gives it dimensionality and elasticity. I feel it’s the best of both worlds and is one of my favorite blends to work with.

The pattern will show the amount of yarn needed in grams. Half the skein was used to knit one side…..half for the other side. It’s easy to weigh the ball every so often to keep track of how much yarn you’ve used already. The solid knit section is the perfect place to lengthen or shorten your scarf…all depending on the amount of yarn you have to start with. The yardage listed is an approximation only.
