Picnic Dress
The picnic dress is a babydoll style dress with an empress waist, gathered skirt, and puff sleeves. It features an open back, a bow on the back, and various bow embellishments.
This pattern includes:
- Graded and made-to-measure instructions. Disclaimer: graded instructions are only provided for the bust because the construction of the rest of the dress is based heavily on your own measurements.
- Drawn diagrams and photo references. Helpful Youtube video references are included throughout.
Please note that:
- THIS IS NOT A PHYSICAL PRODUCT; IT IS A CROCHET PATTERN.
- This particular pattern is WORD-/EXPLANATION-HEAVY & MEASUREMENT-HEAVY.
Other notes:
- Language: English
- Terminology: US
- Level of difficulty: because this pattern includes made-to-measure elements and (in my opinion) difficult construction, I recommend it for advanced crocheters and up. Confident intermediate crocheters may try out this pattern, but I recommend that you first familiarize yourself with crochet terminology, techniques (& easier crochet projects) via Youtube.
- Skills: DC, SC, etc. (the basic crochet stitches), DC decrease & increase, i-cord (making a chain, then slip-stitching across that chain), light math, crocheting in the round & flat.
Materials:
- Recommended yarn: fingering/4-ply (size 1) weight yarn. For reference, I used Yeoman Yarns’ 4-ply soft cotton yarn (where 400g = 1700g) in the colors sanguine red (~127.5g), petal pink (~235g), and cream white (~117.5g) to fit a size 32” bust, 64” skirt width & 27.5” length. Overall, I used ~480g of yarn. Testers have used up to ~850g of yarn.
- Recommended hook: 3mm crochet hook (or any hook that meets the gauge with your tension)
- Measuring tool (e.g., ruler, tape measurer)
- Scissors & yarn needle
- Stitch markers

You may sell dresses made from this pattern. However, you must contact me before doing so. You must also credit me by either tagging @by.redbean via Instagram/@byredbean via Twitter or linking my ko-fi: ko-fi.com/redbeandream. Please do not undersell yourself. At the very least, charge (10USD x hours worked on dress) + cost of materials. I find it a disservice to yourself if you choose to underpay yourself. When selling the dress, use your own photos. Using mine or any of my testers’ photos is prohibited.
When posting a photo of a dress made from this pattern, please tag me @by.redbean and/or use #picnicdress #byredbean. Why, you might ask?
- I would love to share your work on my page as it brings me insurmountable joy that someone has made a dress using this pattern. ♡
- It is only fair that credit goes where credit is due. This is not gatekeeping. It is respecting and recognizing the work a creative has put into creating a pattern. Because you have bought this pattern does not make it yours nor does it mean you should treat the design as if it is yours.
Lastly, I’d like to extend thanks to my testers: Ashley (@akcrochets), Nadia (@iam.lanka), AG (@ajgcrochet), Shenny (@wobbleblobbe), Kayly (@familiardreamstate) & Sarah (@sarahstitchedit) ♡
Again, no refunds will be issued if you buy this listing thinking that it is a physical product. Please read the description in full; thank you. <3
