Piece by Piece Cowl
Build the cowl Piece By Piece, with a series of minis in different bases and/or colors. The pattern is beginner-friendly, with just dc, sc, and ch sts, and it’s easily adjustable in length and width. The Piece by Piece Cowl is specifically designed to work with minis, making it ideal for using up scraps and leftovers!

Gauge
15 sts and 8 rounds = 4”/10cm in dc. Gauge swatch is worked in the round and measurements are taken after blocking. Do not stretch the fabric when checking gauge. Gauge is not essential as a cowl that is slightly larger or smaller will still fit nicely, and the cowl can also be easily adjusted in height and circumference. Differences in gauge will change the finished size and will also impact the yardage required.
Yarn, Yardage, and Colors
The sample used 60yds/55m/25g in each of 4 mini skeins, but the pattern can easily be adjusted to work with any weight and yardage. The stitch pattern works well in anything from a fingering to a bulky weight and the cowl can be worked in any number of minis at any length or all in one yarn. The lace shows up best in solid or semi solid skeins, as variegated yarns will obscure the stitch pattern.
Skills Required
sc, dc, ch, foundation crochet (optional), counting rounds and sts, working into the ch-space, working in the round, skipping sts
Construction
The cowl is worked in the round, in one piece from the bottom up.
Modifications and Adjustments
Notes are included for adjusting the following: making the cowl wider/narrower; making the cowl taller/shorter; working it as an infinity scarf; working it in any number of colors; adding solid rows between each lace section
Overview of the Finished Object
The cowl is worked in the round. It features a simple lace cut out in a basic floral pattern that repeats across the length and height of the cowl. The lace is stacked in neat lines; it is not staggered.
