The Pierian poncho is worked with lace weight silk held double (which explains the 1,500 - 1,800 yards called for in the pattern) and is worked in 2 rectangles.
It is worked with US #6 (4.0mm) needles, leaving an open worked eyelet pattern.
It can also be worked with other weights of yarn - fingering or sport weight.
The eyelet pattern is a 4 stitch, 4 row repeat so it is easy to remember.

The magic of this poncho is in the way the 2 rectangles are joined. One short side is seamed (leaving approx 5” unseamed) to one long side. The unseamed section, when turned back, creates a collar for the neck opening. Then the opposite short side is seamed in the same way to the other long side.
