This hat was inspired by a hat Penny wears on “Big Bang Theory.”

I found several patterns online, but nothing that seemed quite right for what I was looking for. My daughter wanted it to have a space between the two pigtails, like her hat in the show. And I wanted to do it in the round (mostly because I hat seaming).

So after some trial and error, I have ended up making over a dozen of these.

Most recently, at the request of my daughter, I made a version with a fuzzy yarn for the brim. But the pattern includes instructions for both. As well as for a child-size.

A word of caution: people will ask “Where did you get that hat?” and order them from you frequently!
