Pikku
Pikku is a summer dress made of lace weight cotton yarn usually marketed as crochet yarn. It is worked seamlessly top down. At first you can use Pikku as a dress and as your baby grows the dress becomes a tunic.
The sample is knitted with mercerized lace weight cotton yarn which is perfect for a baby’s summer dress since it can be washed in high temperature, it feels cool next to skin and is very durable.
When you select the size please note that babies grow at very different rates. Choose the size according to your baby’s bust measurement. You can easily adjust the length of sleeves and hem. The sample is size 68/74cm and shown on 9 months old baby.
MATERIALS
Sizes: 1-3 months (6-9 months, 12-18 months).
Baby’s chest:
16 (17.4, 18.4)’’
[41 (44, 47) cm]
Baby’s length approximately:
22/24’’ (27/29’’, 31/34’’)
[56/62cm (68/74cm, 80/86cm)]
Yarn:
The dress is designed for thin cotton yarn (meterage 601 yards / 550 meters / 100g) usually marketed as cotton crochet yarn. However, many of my testknitters wanted to use a little bit thicker yarn so I decided to make a calculator which gives you the dimensions of the dress for your preferred gauge.
Yardage: Lace weight cotton yarn (meterage 601 yards / 550 meters / 100g) approximately 325 (358, 440) yards
[297 (352, 402) meters]
Note that yardage usage may vary if your yarn/gauge differs.
Needles: US 0 30’’ 2mm 80cm or longer circular needles.
With thin cotton yarn I recommend using needles with sharp end.
Adjust needle size to obtain the correct gauge.
Other: Tapestry needle, stitch markers
Gauge: 28.5 sts and 50 rows per 4 inches (10cm) in stockinette after blocking.
