Pilsener Zigzag Scarf
This scarf was inspired by Barbara G. Walker’s suggestion, at page 231 of A Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns (2010), that Versions I and II of the Pilsener Pleating stitch be combined. When combined, yarnovers zigzag lengthwise through a field of alternating knit and purl triangles. The two sides of the resulting fabric are similar but not identical. Both sides are good looking, making the pattern suitable for a scarf. The scarf pattern includes garter stitch hems and selvedges.
Gauge is not important, and the pattern can be made in any weight yarn. Just use needles that work well with your chosen yarn, cast on the number of 8-stitch pattern repeats needed to create your desired width, and knit until desired length. I knit a 6.25” x 72” scarf using US6 needles with about 340 yards of a DK weight cotton/linen yarn.
The pattern includes both written instructions and a chart.
