This is a crochet version of a knitted pineapple tea cosy originally released by Patons in Nick-Nacks C41. I have written this pattern to invoke the retro-awesomeness of the knitted pattern, but make it available for crocheters ^___^

This fits a tea pot of approx. 40cm circumference and 15cm height and is made primarily using the puff stitch. The amount of yarn you will need will vary depending on the size of your tea pot and also your gauge; I used 1.5 balls of Moda Vera Pure Wool 8ply for the body of the cosy but I tension tightly so you may not need as much.

How to do the puff stitch:
Yarn over, and insert into stitch/chain gap
# Yarn over, and draw through
Repeat from # two more times
Yarn over.
At this point you should have eight loops on your hook.
Draw the loop closest to the end of your hook through all the other loops. Slip stitch.

How many puff stitches?
Q: “Is there supposed to be a puff stitch in every stitch across in the first row? 35 puff stitches + 2 chains between each?”

A: When you do the rows of puff stitches you leave two stitches between each puff stitch. So you puff stitch, chain twice, leave the two stitches under the two chain stitches you just did empty, puff stitch again (so, into the third stitch from your first puff stitch), repeat.

Gauge: 6 puff stitches x 11 rows in a 4” square.

The gauge for my crochet cosy is 6 stitches x 11 rows in a 4” square, but please keep in mind that your tea pot may not be be the same size as mine. It is really more important to get the dimensions of the two rectangles correct for your tea pot than it is to have the right gauge. My tea pot is 44cm around, so with two 17cm wide crochet rectangles, I get a snug fit with openings for the handle and spout.
