Chandeliers are opulent, extravagant, and beautiful. Although they have been fixtures of function and decoration through the ages, recently chandeliers have enjoyed a surge in popularity and become trendy at weddings and other formal events. Brides even rent them to hang in trees at outdoor weddings, and have them printed on their invitations and cocktail napkins. This shawlette is a celebration of chandeliers. It is knit from the bottom up, beginning with an extra-wide Japanese Chandelier Lace Border that really pops visually because of all the twisted stitches it incorporates. The crescent shape of this shawlette is achieved using short rows. An all-over lace stitch called Perforated Lace fills the shawlette’s main body with little holes that let the light shine through it…from the sun, or even from an elegant chandelier. I knit this in Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light Merino Wool Yarn. It is knit in fingering weight in the shade of Fragrant. This pattern would also work using DK or sport weight yarn. 6 Feet in length, and 21 inches at the center deepest point, this is a very wearable shape and size.
