Pink Kitchen hat
This beautiful berry coloured hat can be made and worn as a slouchy hat, slightly bigger than a beanie, or it can be blocked as a Beret. I have kept mine as a loose topped slouchy hat that covers my ears. It has been entirely inspired by
my Sheffield kitchen and the warm pinks that I painted it.
The pattern has both chart and written instructions for the motifs and crown decreases.
An exciting extra addition to this pattern is that I have also provided a b/w chart for the body and crown as well as a colour chart. I teach online colour blending workshops for Fair Isle knitting and the b/w chart will enable you to use your own colour choices, if you so wish for this project.
Sizing :-
Centre of crown to bottom of rib – 22 cm / 8 ½ inches
Circumference of rib at 108 stitch cast on round is 59cm / 23 ¼ inches or stretches to 66cm or 26 inches
Gauge 32 stitches and 37 rows
Colour Notes :-
This hat pattern uses 8 colours, 3 for the motif, 3 for the back ground and 2 for the ‘singing’ or accent line in the middle of the motifs.
Yarn:-
One ball of Jamieson’s of Shetland spindrift yarn in the following colours :-
Port Wine, Mantilla, Maroon (for the motifs)
Camel - Mooskit or Mogit, Pot-Pourri, and Old Rose for the back ground.
And a small length of Peat and Amber for the singing line in the centre of the flower and tree motifs.
ADDED NOTE, the first two rounds of this hat are knit rounds only - then start the rib.
Before I knitted the Crown, I sampled the colours in two ways – light motif on dark back ground and dark motif on light back
ground – as in the body. Initially, I started knitting the crown with a dark background, but I didn’t like the stark contrast so I
unpicked it and knitted it the same way as the colours in the body to make it harmonious. You can knit the hat either way
– light motif on dark back ground or dark motif on light – each way shines.
Needles:-
2:75mm UK needle – (US2) circular needle for rib
3mm (UK) (US3) circular needle for body
5 x 3mm(UK) (US3) short DPN’s to finish crown
I love this pattern because it is cheery, warm and rosy, but, as mentioned, you can make it your own by choosing your own colours.
I look forward to seeing your projects - please tag me on Instagram with @traceydoxey because I share work on my stories.
