Pattern is available in English, and now Danish (thanks to Marianne Holmen for providing the translation).

Pink Mosaica is a shawl worked with one color per row, using the slip stitch (or mosaic) technique. The shawl is begun in one corner with 5 stitches. The three borders (top, and lower left and right sides) are worked in interesting variations on garter stitch. The slip stitch patterns are presented in chart form; there are plenty of descriptive instructions along the way. The borders are worked at the same time as the body of the shawl. The only finishing work (besides weaving in a few ends) is a bit of plain one-color garter stitch trim worked along one edge of the shawl.

Knitting skill level: intermediate. Skills used: stockinette stitch, garter stitch, slipping stitches, increasing and decreasing, picking up stitches (but according to an easy pattern with no counting). Almost all of the stitch patterns are presented in chart form only – they make a lot more sense in graphic form than written out as words.

Needles: size 3 (3.25 mm), working loosely. A circular needle that is 47 inches (120 cm) long will be most useful.

Gauge swatch, worked over a mosaic stitch in stockinette, stretched gently but not blocked:
25 stitches = 4 inches = 10 cm
42.5 rows = 4 inches = 10 cm
You don’t have to match the gauge exactly to knit this shawl. Just make sure your gauge swatch has the density and drape that you want in the finished shawl.

Yarn:
Color A, pinks and purples: Knitpicks Palette, a two-ply, 100% wool fingering weight yarn. One 50g ball each of 6 colors: Cosmopolitan, Rouge, Lipstick, Pimento, Fuchsia , Fairy Tale. If substituting yarns, choose a range of related, strong pinks and purples with some gradient relationships, but don’t try for perfect gradation – a little disjuncture is part of the interest.

Color B, a creamy white: Knitpicks Palette Bare, a two-ply, undyed 100% wool fingering weight yarn. Two 100g skeins. Also: Knitpicks Aloft Super Kid Mohair, a laceweight mohair/silk yarn, four 25g balls. If substituting yarns, other brands of laceweight kidsilk mohair may work well also. Knitpicks Palette combines especially well with laceweight kidsilk mohair because of its all-wool, two-ply construction – and in addition, it has a soft hand for a shetland-style knitting yarn.

Yarn note: for Color B, one strand of Palette Bare is held together with one strand of Aloft.

These yarn requirements are enough to make a full-size shawl for most people. The shawl I knitted is about 7 feet 8 inches wide and 3 feet 4 inches deep. You can easily customize the size of your shawl by continuing to knit until it is larger or stopping early.
