This plaid pattern is worked as a traditional overlay mosaic pattern. You will need 3 colors to create this plaid effect. The yarn used in the cover photo was:

Color A: 1200 yards (Color in cover photo used was DK Sidar Hayfield bonus in Lake Blue)
Color B: 2400 yards (Color in cover photo used was DK Sidar Hayfield bonus in Dusty Pink)
Color C: 1200 yards (Color in cover photo used was DK Sidar Hayfield bonus in Mauve Marl)
