Pino mittens
Where I come from, the pines are high and thin. Their trunks are reddish and in certain light seems golden. The ground under the trees is full of lichen, moss and twigs. I love all the forest, but standing under the pines and listening to the wind in their branches is particularly calming.
The Mediterranean pine is short and wide and has that typical umbrella-like shape. The trunk is grayish brown and the pinecones are huge, bigger than my hand. Under the “pineta”, the pine forest, the ground is usually naked.
The mittens are worked from the cuff up and they have an Indian thumb gusset. The Pino pattern decorates the back of the hand.

My lovely tester Peri said: “Another well-written, clear, easy-to-follow pattern from Rustic House Knits. I really enjoyed knitting these mittens. I particularly enjoyed the use of the Indian gusset, which I hadn’t seen before. It was fun and looks good. There are so many options in this version for getting the length you need. For a pattern where you can’t just end anywhere, this one is remarkably flexible.”
