I’m not normally a beret kind of gal; I’m more envious of those who can pull of the look. I just couldn’t resist playing around with short rows to create this color wheel effect, and thus a beret was born.

This pattern is designed for “self-striping” yarn, or variegated yarn with a long colorway, where each color segment lasts for dozens of stitches. The beret is worked in short rows that run between the center of the hat and the brim. This creates sectors of color with the variegated yarn.

The brim is worked at the same time as the rest of the hat, giving it the same vertical striping pattern.

This pattern includes instructions for both sock/sport weight and DK weight yarn.

Experience level: Familiarity with short rows required.
